Natural raw materials are, for the most part, of plant origin. Contrary to what the general public might believe, flowers are far from being the only part of the plant offering olfactory treasures. Many parts of plants are utilized, including roots (vetiver), bark (cinnamon), resin (galbanum or benzoin), stems (lemongrass), seeds (anise, cardamom, cumin), fruits (pepper, juniper), citrus peels (orange, lemon, bergamot), as well as rhizomes (iris, ginger). The petals of flowers like Centifolia rose or Sambac jasmine remain truly exceptional ingredients.
Marie Duchêne’s expertise in natural perfumery allows her to create scents that exist in nature but cannot be extracted—such as the aroma of fruits or “silent” flowers.
For specific projects, she skillfully develops formulations entirely free of synthetic ingredients. To achieve this, she uses molecules obtained through processes that comply with standards like Cosmos and Cosmebio (e.g., isolates).
